Shooting portraits is one thing I really enjoy. When I read about a close up lens attachment that you can mount to the Rolleiflex to get ‘a little more intimate’ with your subject, i.e., the Rolleinar, I thought I’d give it a try. Although I have Rolleinars 1, 2 and 3, I’ve only shot with the Rolleinar 1 and will show the resulting images below.
The Rolleinar lens attachments come in Bay 1, 2, and 3 sizes. Before you buy one or a set, you need to know which will fit your Rolleiflex. As with the other Rolleinars, Rolleinar 1 comes with a leather case. It’s in a neat little package so I usually bring it with me when I’m out and about with the Rolleiflex. Rolleinars come in a two-piece set consisting of a viewing lens (the thicker one) and a taking lens. I always remind myself to make sure the red dot on the viewing lens (see below) should be up when attached to the camera. Once the Rolleinar 1 is attached, the focusing distance is converted from 40 inches to 18.5 inches.
